Cowie Montgomery Architects was established at the end of 2007.  We operate from our studio in Lewes, working on a range of projects in central London and Sussex, and further afield.

This website illustrates 15 projects, selected from the 15 years and 201 projects of our practice, including mixed-use commercial buildings, workplace refurbishments, art galleries and private residences.

The partners, Nick Cowie and Lucy Montgomery, have extensive knowledge of current and emerging practice in their field. We have a profound understanding of work to historic buildings. Typically, our projects have been achieved in demanding planning contexts. The practice is particularly involved in work to existing buildings and in complex urban sites.

Project construction values have ranged between £250 000 and £25 million.

Cowie Montgomery have a track record of collaborative working within the construction and design sector. We have partnered in design and delivery with contractors and interior designers, and with other architects, from New York and London.

We address each client and project as unique, working from first principles: we do not have a house style. Our design approach is to maximise flexibility, natural light and generous space. Our working method is hands-on and practical. We are concerned with durable materials, economy of detail and the practicalities of making contemporary buildings. We seek clear strategic answers to complicated questions.
